What’s waiting behind the giant Stark Industries barrier capping off your stroll down the Hollywood Studios Backlot area? Here’s what we know about Disney California Adventure’s upcoming Avengers Campus, opening date and more!
Avengers Campus Opening Date and More!
Ever since the Disney acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, guests have been speculating if or when we would start to see our favorite superheroes flying, swinging and warping into Disney parks. By the end of a years long development project, several parks are receiving a much anticipated superhero expansion. Disney California Adventure, Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland will all have their regional differences. Each of the three parks will feature different attractions. Avengers Campus world tour anyone?
Referred to as Avengers Campus, this area will invite guests to unleash their inner superhero. For a while we’ve known that this is the first phase of DCA’s marvel-themed area. And that it would be unveiled in an initial first phase in 2020. Awe-inspiring tech demos and teasers have had us hungry for more info on upcoming attractions for Avengers Campus. Now that we’re almost there excitement couldn’t be higher!
It’s now known that guests can expect to enter the first phase of Avengers Campus with a summer 2020 opening date. This will feature several rides and attractions geared towards making you the superhero.
What’s There to See in Avengers Campus?
The crown jewel of the area seen when approaching from the Hollywood Backlot area is the Gurdians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride. It’s also the first attraction in Avengers Campus. The 2020 summer opening date for Avengers Campus will bring us a whole host of new experiences.
In typical Disney fashion, the avenger’s campus area is chock full of story. As it happens, the Avengers have opened up a campus to train the next generation of superheroes! You’ll meet iconic Marvel characters, and participate in a fully interactive experience like no other. The Avengers Campus summer 2020 opening date includes several attractions.
One ride allows you to jump into the shoes of the Amazing Spider-Man. This ride is very similar to Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. You’ll be able to harness Spider-Man’s web shooting ability to take out baddies in the Spider-Man Slingshot ride. Hopefully this means ride photos you don’t have to email to yourself.
Doctor Strange will take guests through a ‘Journey Into the Mystic Arts’. This includes a fantastic show that invites guests to learn the secrets of Dr Strange’s iconic superpowers. Can’t wait to see how they handle the special effects!
If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, you’ll even have the opportunity to board a Quinjet! The jaw-dropping spaceship will take you on an immersive journey. Much like the Star Tours attraction over in Tomorrowland.
What About Other Attractions?
That’s not to mention all of the new food and retail that will be popping up for us to explore! One restaurant, Pym’s Test Kitchen will replicate Ant-Man and the Wasp’s technology to shrink and grow food right before your eyes. Not quite sure what that means, exactly… But I know I want see it!
As for retail, not much has been revealed but we do know there will be a couple of gift shops. Maybe we’ll even see some Avengers Minnie ears! Considering what Disney’s been doing in recent years with retail, we can assume these are going to be heavily themed retail space.
What I Can’t Wait to see in Avengers Campus
Parents will really appreciation that Avengers Campus will have more attractions for older kids and adults. That being said, this means even more we’re going to be looking forward to in Disney California Adventure. There’s no more having to worry if we’ll get burnt out on what the second gate has to offer. DCA is really becoming a park that holds its own!
Cars Land carried the torch from A Bug’s Land with LOTS of attractions and rides for younger kids to enjoy in the park. Because of this, Avengers Campus will balance out Disney California Adventure. Disneyland is a great place for kids of all ages. But Disney California Adventure is where you go to party with the whole family! As a result, it’ll be an exciting multi-day experience.
Let’s just say my 10 year old especially is going to love this place. Marvel (and the Avengers) are really the last Disney owned property to be represented well in the parks. (Thanks, Universal Studios.) Hopefully this will mean that even those kids who are past “Disney” age can still have something to do in DCA. (Galaxy’s Edge fills the void in Disneyland well.)
So far this is all the information Disney has for the new area right now. Hopefully there’s a lot more to come! All I know is in our family, we. love. Marvel! There’s a lot in store from what we already know. What are you looking forward to seeing?
The summer 2020 opening date for Avengers Campus is right around the corner. That being said, what can’t you wait to see?
