If you don’t have time to watch the full video (above, not ours), here’s a quick run down of what happened at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge dedication ceremony that took place in Disneyland, California on May 29th, 2019.
It opens with Bob Iger, the CEO of the Walt Disney Company thanking George Lucas for creating Star Wars. He then spoke a bit about the creative process involved in creating Galaxy’s Edge. To his imagineers he said “Don’t be ambitious. Be the most ambitious you have ever been”.

He then spoke about how uniquely Star Wars and advanced Galaxy’s Edge is before introducing none other than George Lucas himself.
“Well first of all you did a great job,” Lucas said. Iger replied “coming from you that means a lot.” To which Lucas added “well, it could have gone very bad, but it didn’t. It’s Star Tours on steroids at a level you couldn’t possibly believe.” His entire speech is amazing but he ended with “It will change your life”.

Billy Dee Williams who played Lando Calrissian then came on stage and commented on how great the Millennium Falcon is looking. His short, but powerful speech, ended by saying “this land is for you.”
Next Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) struts on stage to his classic theme music. The last time he was in a Disney park with George Lucas was at the opening of Star Tours.
His speech opened with “And I thought to myself: this is inconceivable that I could be part of a movie that could get it’s own ride in a Disney theme park. I mean, I better savour the moment because it will never be surpassed. and yet – look at where we are today. We get our own land!”

His heartfelt speech continued to talk about how grateful he is to be part of a series with such impact and reach before thanking George Lucas and Walt Disney for “teaching the world a new way to dream.”
Bob Iger then welcomes the inhabitatans of planet Batuu that allow park visitors to live the adventure. Cast members fan out into the area surrounding the Millennium Falcon and cheer.
Chewbacca appears in the window. His animatronics are very lifelike. Mark Hamill yells “OK Chewie, fire up the falcon!” but it doesn’t work.
After a brief exchange the Star Wars theme plays for the first time and Harrison Ford takes to the stage.
Ford then goes towards the Millennium Falcon and says “Peter, this one’s for you!” as lights flash in the background. For those who don’t know, Peter William Mayhew who played Chewbacca through all the Star Wars films passed away April 30th, 2019.
